Plagiarism by Bhawna Mallick and Kriti Raj at Galgotias College of Engineering & Technology

Today, I found that a paper written by Bhawna Mallick Kriti Raj and Himani from India is plagiarizing my papers. Those persons are affiliated to the  Galgotias College of Engg & Tech., India formerly known as Uttar Pradesh  Technical University.

The paper is called “Weather prediction using CPT+ algorithm” and was published in the International Journal Of Engineering And Computer Science ISSN: 2319-7242 Volume 5 Issue 5 May 2016, Page No. 16467-16470. ( ).

Plagiarism by Bhawna Mallick Uttar at Galgotias College of Engineering & Technology

The paper is an obvious case of plagiarism as it copies several pages of my PAKDD 2015 paper about the CPT+ algorithm, published a year before ( ).

The authors of the plagiarized paper,  Bhawna Mallick et al., claims to propose the CPT+ algorithm in their paper, and infringes our copyright by copying several pages of the paper, with figures and text, which is unacceptable.

Who is Bhawna Mallick, Kriti Raj  et al.?

I have done a little search to find who these persons are. According to the paper, their e-mails addresses are:

  • Bhawna Mallick. Galgotias College of Engg & Technology, Greater Noida, UP, India
  • Kriti Raj. Galgotias College of Engg & Technology, Greater Noida, UP, India
  • Himani.  Galgotias College of Engg & Technology, Greater Noida, UP, India

The website of the Galgotias College of Engineering & Technology can be found here:

And it can be found that Bhawna Mallick et al are affiliated to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.  In particular,  it is possible to find the following information about Bhawna Mallick the first author of the plagiarized paper:

Prof. (Dr.) Bhawna MallickProfessor & HODData Mining and Fuzzy Logic

Apparently, Bhawna Mallick is professor and head of the department.  Here is a screenshot of her webpage:

The fact that this person is head of that department and put her name as first author on a plagiarized paper raises serious questions about the quality of that college.

Also it raises questions about the quality of that journal.

And who is Kriti Raj?

According to this LinkedIn page, he is a student at the Galgotias College:

What will happen?

Well, this is not the first time that someone plagiarizes my papers. I stopped counting a while ago. I think that it has happened more than 10 times already in the last 7 years. So what I will do? I will send an e-mail to the Galgotias College of Engg & Technology to let them know about the situation, and I will ask them to take appropriate action. Moreover, I will ask that the journal paper be retracted  by contacting the journal editor.

Hopefully, the Galgotias College of Engg & Technology will take this problem of plagiarism seriously and take appropriate action to punish those responsible.  In India, this is not always the case. In another case of plagiarism that I had reported just a few months ago at the Ilahia College of Engineering and Technology, they have decided to simply ignore the e-mails and take no actions, which is very bad from an academic perspective.

April 19, 2017

I sent an e-mail to the chancellor of the Galgotias college as well as the dean and the CEO of the galgotias college, to let them know about this serious incident.A serious case of plagiarism by BhawnaMallick et al. at the Galgotias;;;;;;;; Support@galgotiacollege.eduDate:Wednesday, April 19, 2017, 5:16:05 PM GMT+8Dear Chancellor and Deans of the Galgotias University,I have recently found that professor Bhawna Mallick et al. working at your university has plagiarized one of my paper. The paper is the following:BhawnaMallickKritiRaj and Himani, “Weather prediction using CPT+ algorithm”, International Journal Of Engineering And Computer Science ISSN: 2319-7242 Volume 5 Issue 5 May 2016, Page No. 16467-16470. plagiarizes large parts of my PAKDD 2015 paper, including figures and text, without citing my paper. (…)This is unacceptable.  I thus ask that the paper be retracted immediately from that journal and that all versions of the plagiarized papers be removed from any online website. Moreover, there should be some serious punishment for this type of bad academic behavior. Thus, I ask you to let me know as soon as possible about the actions that you will take to punish this serious case of academic misconduct.I have provided more information about this issue on my blog: answer this e-mail as soon as possible to let me know how you will take actions to handle this case.I have put in CC different persons that may be related to this issue, including Mallick et al who have committed plagiarism.Best regards,

Then, I received an “apology” from Kriti Raj claiming that there was “no intention of any kind of forgery” . But this is a ridiculous claim, since they obviously copied a large part of my paper without even citing it. That e-mail was sent only to me.

An then, an hour later, I received an e-mail from B. Mallick claiming that she is unaware that the student has submitted the paper. That e-mail was sent to the chancellor and other people that were in CC for my first e-mail. I then answered by writing this e-mail:Subject:A serious case of plagiarism by BhawnaMallick at the Galgotias;;;;;;;; Support@galgotiacollege.eduDate:Wednesday, April 19, 2017, 5:16:05 PM GMT+8Hello, (…)In general, the first author of a paper is the one who benefits the most from the paper.  Besides, the supervisors always have the responsibility of checking the papers written by their students for plagiarism, especially when their name appears on the paper.   (…)Anyway, it is not my job to judge who has committed plagiarism from the three authors of that paper.  My job is just to report this problem and it is the job of the Galgotias university to investigate this issue and take appropriate actions about this to punish the person(s) who committed plagiarism. So thanks for the e-mail. The next is to retract the paper from that journal. And I am looking forward to know what kind of actions will be taken by the university as a punishment (because someone certainly need to have some kind of punishment for committing plagiarism, whoever it is from that paper).Regards,

Update: 2017-11-27

Seven months later. Although, I asked the Galgotias college to investigate this case of plagiarism and to tell me what kind of punishment will be given to those who committed plagiarismnobody from the Galgotias College ever answered my e-mail.  Thus, it seems that they prefer to just ignore the problem, which does not give a good impression about this college.

Today, I have noticed that:

  • The journal paper has been retracted from the journal. This is good first step. However, there are still some online copies of this paper available on and some other websites. Thus, the problem has not been completely solved. I expect all online copies to be removed.
  • I see that B. Mallick is not working at Galgotias college anymore. Someone else is now the head of the department.  It might be some form of punishment. However, the Galgotias college never told me about what kind of punishment will be given. Thus, it is possible that no punishment has been given to those responsible for the plagiarism (it could be Kriti Raj and B. Mallick or just one of them )
